FAMILY

Wife: Katherine Fitzpatrick (née Gaal), a former Miss New Jersey runner-up. The two met months after his 2022 U.S. Open win, went public in January 2023, got engaged that September, and married on October 18, 2024, at All Saints Episcopal Church near Bay Head Yacht Club, New Jersey, with every reception table named after a famous golf course.

Katherine appeared in Netflix’s Full Swing and has been a visible, supportive presence, including writing “I love you” and “MF is cute” on his golf balls before the 2025 Open Championship. As of 2026, the couple is expecting their first child.

Brother: Alex Fitzpatrick, also a professional golfer, and the two share one of golf’s most heartwarming sibling stories. Alex caddied for Matt during his 2013 U.S. Amateur win, went on to play college golf at Wake Forest and compete in two Walker Cups, then turned pro himself.

In 2026, the brothers won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans together as a team, an emotional victory where Matt celebrated with pregnant wife Katherine while Alex celebrated with his own girlfriend, fellow golfer Rachel Kuehn (a three-time Curtis Cup competitor they met at Wake Forest). Foster carried Fitzpatrick’s bag for 6 years, through his career-defining 2022 U.S. Open win, before the two parted ways in March 2025, with Foster stepping back from full-time caddying (he briefly went on to work with Collin Morikawa afterward).

Equipment status: A notable equipment free agent, Fitzpatrick doesn’t have a single full-bag manufacturer deal, mixing brands including Bettinardi (putter) and Titleist (ball), a rarity among top-10 world-ranked players.
